Have you ever wondered what you need to do with your life? Â I have. Â In fact, I often still ask that question. Â What is really cool is when you meet someone who has figured it out. Â My wife is one of those people. Â Starting September 8th, she will start working for herself at A Family That Plays Together Counseling & Play Therapy. Â If I had asked her what she would be doing in 2015 back when we first met in 1989, I don’t think that she could have told you. Â She might have said something like “helping people” or something to that effect, but the specifics were unknown to her. Â It is funny how God has moved her to this point. Â She worked with daycares and then Suspected Child Abuse & Neglect back in college. Â While in Texas, she worked with Child Protection Services. Â When we moved back to Arkanas, she had the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom and then work with the Arkansas Foster Care program for a short while. Â When our youngest entered kindergarten, Temple began work on her Master’s. Â And, in 2009, she graduated. Â All along the way, she was taking steps toward where she is now.
That is how God works. Â He moves us along the path toward what He needs us to do. Â His Word is very clear. Â He has a plan and wants us to be a part of it. Â In Jeremiah 29:11, the Bibletells us about this.
“For I know the Plans I have for you.” Â –this is the Lord’s Declaration– Â “plans for your welfare, not a disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (HCSB)
Discovering God’s Plan can often be a bit of a headache as we often get caught up in the details or wanting a long term view of how God is going to work. Â Along the way, Temple and I have learned a simple truth… “Trust God with this step.” Â We don’t try to figure them all out. Â We simply take the step that God is calling us to and follow again when He leads. Â There is a simplicity in this approach that makes life easier. Â We don’t have to worry. Â We let God do His thing. Â That is what it’s all about, trusting God and His plan. Â Proverbs 3:5, 6, tell us all about this truth.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths. (HCSB)
I am excited for my wife as she begins this new venture. Â She has worked with and for other counselors since before she graduated in 2009, but now she will be the captian of her own ship. Â Even more important, she is following God’s plan for her life. Â That’s what we should all do.
