In the context of this passage in 2 Corinthians, Paul focuses his attention on the Old Covenant between God and the Israelites, contrasted with the New Covenant that believers have with God through Christ. So as we think about the Old and the New Covenant granted to us by God, I want us to consider “What is freedom?” because I am unsure that we—even as Americans—truly comprehend the freedom that God wants us to experience!

In this message, we will take some time diving deeper into the fourth chapter of Ephesians. We spent a great deal of time focused on the single phrase “speaking the truth in love” in this morning’s message entitled, “If Christianity is all about love, why are Christians so intolerant?” So tonight, I hope to take a wider view of Ephesians 4 to discover some of the values that define the Body of Christ.
The Messiah was the promised hope that would bring that freedom to everyone who trusted in Him. God appointed a time before the beginning of time that would be the best case scenario for the Messiah to come to the earth. The Messiah had to come at the right time so that He would fulfill all that was prophesied about Him in the Old Testament and enable the gospel to be spread throughout the known world.
Some may seek for spectacular signs and wonders, others may claim great miracles and manifestations of God’s power, but God speaks to each of us today through His Word. We need no priest, no prophet, no holy man, we have His holy Word. Are we listening to what He has to say to us today?
The purpose of this lesson is to help us see how seeking to understand the mind of Christ can bring unity among God’s people.
