Unveiling the Reality of God’s Presence in Our Lives

For our new sermon series, we’re going to be looking at some lessons from the life of Moses. Unlike an expository sermon series which would begin at the beginning of the Book of Exodus and work its way through the text, we will be looking at Moses’ life from a topical point of view. The reason for this is because we are coordinating our sermon topics each week with some of your reading from The Essential Presence. So, the first sermon of our topical series on lessons from the life of Moses takes us to an event that happened sometime after Moses’ eightieth birthday. He had just led the Israelites out of Egyptian bondage, crossed the Red Sea on dry ground, ate of the provision of God in the wilderness, arrived at Mt. Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments, and now is receiving the detailed instructions for the building of the tabernacle as a place to worship God. It was during one of these times—while Moses was on the mountain meeting with God—that his brother, Aaron, and the people of Israel created a golden calf to worship. In response to their disobedience, the Lord sent a plague upon the people and told them to go to the land of promise, but He wasn’t going to go with them because of their stubbornness. In Exodus 33, Moses interceded on behalf of the Israelites, and the Lord relented and promised to go with them. Listen to this conversation between the Lord and Moses. [Read Exodus 33:12-18] This is the backdrop for our study—Unveiling the Reality of God’s Presence in My Life.
