Acknowledging the Presence of the Spirit

Genesis 1:1-2

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The Spirit is Everywhere

  • The Spirit is described here as ‘hovering over the face of the deep.’
  • The Spirit is described here as ‘hovering over the face of the deep.’
  • He was present in Creation—He is present here now also!
  • This is referred to as the omnipresence of God.

Acts 2:1-4

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The Spirit is Indwelling

  • The Spirit is described here as ‘divided tongues as of fire.’
  • The Spirit is described here as ‘divided tongues as of fire.’
  • This manifestation of the Spirit came to rest upon each believer.
  • The Holy Spirit knows everything about me because He lives in me—He is omniscient.

Acts 2:2

John 3:8

8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

The Spirit is Empowering

  • The Spirit is described here as ‘wind,’ with a sound like a tornado.
  • The power of the Holy Spirit is unlimited and He desires to work in and through me for God’s glory—He is omnipotent.
