The Avenue to Abundant Life

Last week, we started a short series studying through Isaiah 55. In this chapter, God is reminding His exiled people of who He is and what He promised to do for them. In those first six verses of Isaiah 55, we saw God’s invitation to have life more abundantly! Then the prophet explained the requirement for this abundant life—repentance, turning away from their wicked ways and turning to the Lord. This teaching of belief and repentance is how a believer receives salvation, or eternal life, but that is only the beginning of the process of experiencing life more abundantly in the here and now. Once a person trusts in Christ as their Savior, they will then begin the process of being conformed to the image of God’s Son. Theologians call this process “sanctification.” I call this “becoming a disciple of Christ.” The Apostle Paul referred to it as “keeping in step with the Spirit.” Jesus called this process “living life more abundantly.” In today’s study, we will consider the avenue to abundant life from the prophet’s perspective.
