The Love of Christ Exemplified

The Parable of the Good Samaritan is one of the most well-known teachings of Christ from the Gospel of Luke. While we are probably all aware of the specifics of this parable, it is important to interpret this parable on two levels—the straightforward teaching and the symbolic teaching of the parable. On the surface, this parable teaches us that, like the Samaritan, we should help others who are in need. But if we look at this parable symbolically, we see the love of Jesus is exemplified in the attitude and actions of the Samaritan man. Just like a Samaritan, Jesus had been rejected by the Jewish, religious leaders. Because of His love for hurt and broken people, Jesus’ parable taught that His purpose is to minister to those who needed Him—those who are dead in their sins.
